As A Career Move, The Hyderabad Girl Shifted To Mumbai, Away From Home And Family. Compromises Have Been Difficult, But Necessary.

Like With Her Education, For One. She Opted To Do Her First Year Bachelor Of Arts Via Correspondence, But As The Miss Asia Pacific Competition Drew Closer, Juggling Work And Studies Became Close To Impossible, Specially With Her Modeling Assignments, Travelling And Training.

Enrolling for the beauty pageant was something she did after moving to Mumbai for better career prospects. At 18, she was one of the triumphant trio that bagged every title that year – Miss Universe, Miss World and her own Miss Asia Pacific, 2000. She was initially a little hesitant about getting into movies – “I thought it would be such a predictable career move for the winner of a beauty pageant.” But actor Anupam Kher managed to convince her otherwise and she signed his film Om Jai Jagdish, though her first release was Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, a remake of the Tamil blockbuster, Minnale. The first time she faced the camera was for a scene in Deewaanapan which was released later.
